Bunny Holding Egg - Paper Piecing Project Tutorial

Techniques Used:
- Resize a PDF using MS Word
- Cut the design out by hand

First we are going to make the bunny pattern larger. We will open the PDF file, select the pattern and copy it to the clipboard. Then we will paste it into Microsoft Word where we can resize the pattern and then print it.

Double-click on the "PCS_Bunny_Holding_Egg_Reference.pdf" file to open it in Adobe Reader. If you don't have Adobe Reader you can download it for free here.

In Adobe Reader, click on the Tools menu, then select Basic and then Snapshot Tool. The snapshot tools allows you to draw a rectangle with your mouse by clicking on a point and then dragging. Once you let go of the mouse button, everything that is within the rectangle is copied to the clipboard so that you can paste it into another program.

The pattern pieces are now copied to the clipboard.

Start Microsoft Word or an image editing program of your choice.
Click on Edit and then Paste.

The bunny pattern is pasted into MS Word. Click on the pattern image to select it. You will see a bounding box appear to show that it is selected.

If you plan to make the pattern larger it is best to change the page margins so you can maximize your use of the page.
Click on File and then on Page Setup.
Change the Top, Bottom, Left and Right margins to .25 and then click OK.

Now we are ready to make the pattern larger. Click on the pattern image and then click on the bottom right tiny square that is in the corner. Now drag that square to make the image larger. It is up to you how much larger you want to make the pattern. In this example I filled the page.

Now you can print it. Click on File and then Print.

Here you can see the pattern we just printed on the right side of the image below. I've placed it next to the reference sheet that I printed out so you can see the difference in size.

Now that we've printed out the pattern we are going to cut out the pieces so we can use them in our project.

First I cut out the body.

Next I attached the body to a piece of pink felt. Then I cut out the body and removed the white pattern piece when finished.

I cut out the ears and nose from a piece of dark pink felt.

Then I cut out the arms and the egg.

Now I have all of my pieces cut out so I can start assembling the design. Using a Q-tip I applied glue to the ears and nose and adhered them to the body.

I used 2 small black brads for the eyes. This give a nice 3D effect.

I decided to embroider a design on the egg. When I was finished embroidering I glued the egg to the body.

Using some light pink embroidery floss, I accented the ears with a back stitch.

Previously, I glue the arms on the body but I added 3 small stitches to the arms for decoration. Then I glued some cotton to the tail.

To give the bunny rosy cheeks, I rubbed a Q-tip on some pink chalk and applied it to the face.

My project is complete. I could use this bunny on a card or scrapbook page or on any craft project.
